The ancestral home of Masamune Date, the hero of Tohoku
This mausoleum enshrines Masamune Date, the founder and first daimyo of the Sendai Domain. Destroyed by fire during an air raid in 1945, it was rebuilt in 1979 and restored in 2001. The cultural traces of the magnificient Momoyama period are aparent even now. There is also musuem exhibiting the items that was buried with Masamune Date along with the mausoleums of the second and third daimyo’s, Tadamune and Tsunamune.

After exiting Sendai Mediatheque, take a walk down Jozenji-dori! Beef tongue restaurant Tsukasa Torayoko Store
